Jana Pierce is a fine art painter whose work is rooted in a lifelong love of the natural world — the patience of a heron, the shifting light on open water, the quiet drama of landscapes near and far.
Born in Decatur, Indiana and based in Milan, Ohio for the past 20 years, Jana has spent decades building a creative life. For 20 years she ran Off the Wall Painting & Design, a decorative painting business that sharpened her eye for color, composition, and what makes a space feel like home. The Painted Path Artistry is the natural next chapter — a full turn toward the fine art she has always loved most.
Jana's work begins on the road. She travels with a camera and a curiosity that never stops, building a library of images that eventually find their way to her easel. Her style — which she describes as artistic realism or optical blending — transforms those photographs into paintings that feel more alive than the original scene: richer in color, deeper in mood, more fully felt. Inspired by the cheerful boldness of artist Ali Kay, Jana has developed her own approach that honors expressive brushwork while staying true to her love of detail and clarity.
Her creative journey has taken her across the country — Colorado, North Carolina, Dallas, Tennessee, Portland — and across the world, including art study in Italy and an unforgettable 450-mile hike of the Camino de Santiago in Spain. That trek, hauling a daypack through northern Spain and sleeping in albergues alongside strangers from every corner of the world, is woven into the name of this business. A painted path is always curious about what lies ahead.
Jana paints in her home studio in Milan, Ohio — the same space where she has created for 20 years. Her favorite painting to date is the eagle.

The Process
Observation, Intention, & a Painter's Eye for Detail
Jana's process begins long before she picks up a brush. She travels with a camera, building a library of images that capture the moments, landscapes, and subjects she can't stop thinking about. Back in her studio, she works through thumbnail sketches — exploring color combinations and compositions until one feels right.
From there, she works in acrylics, layering color and detail with a style she describes as artistic realism — expressive enough to feel alive, detailed enough to feel true. The goal is never just to recreate a scene. It's to paint how it felt to be there.
